Senior Mining Engineer – Long Term Planning

About the role

The Senior Mining Engineer, Long Term Planning, reports to the Chief Mining Engineer and is responsible for the strategic mine planning cycle of the Houndé Gold Mine. The role ensures that long‑term plans, pit designs and annual budgets maximise the value of the asset throughout its life while integrating inputs from geology, processing, mining and business functions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead annual strategic planning, high‑level scheduling and scenario analysis using Whittle and MineSched.
• Produce the detailed Life‑of‑Mine (LOM) budget schedule and support site management with data‑driven insights.
• Coordinate inputs from geology, processing, mining and business teams for block model optimisation, pit shell selection and cut‑off grade strategy.
• Run trade‑off and sensitivity studies (gold price, costs, recovery, geotechnical parameters, mining rates) to test plan robustness.
• Incorporate ESG considerations such as waste landforms, tailings capacity and closure into long‑term development options.
• Develop and maintain detailed open‑pit designs (pushbacks, ramps, haul roads, drainage, waste dumps) using Surpac, Datamine or equivalent.
• Ensure pit designs meet geotechnical criteria and are reviewed with the Geotechnical team.
• Update designs after each optimisation cycle and manage major design modifications arising from unforeseen events.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers, promoting safety, rigour and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Senior mining engineer with proven experience in long‑term mine planning and pit design.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and coordinate inputs from geology, processing, mining and business stakeholders.
• Strong commitment to safety, operational excellence and continuous improvement.
