Area Manager – Liptako/Soum (Dori)

About the role

The Area Manager for the Liptako/Soum region, based in Dori, leads the Norwegian Refugee Council’s (NRC) humanitarian operations in north‑western Burkina Faso. Reporting to the Central Sahel Multi‑Country Office Country Director, the role ensures high‑quality project delivery, staff security and contributes to regional coordination through the Multi‑Country Management Group.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the Area Office and any sub‑offices, overseeing programme implementation, staff performance and resource allocation.
• Conduct security risk assessments and ensure the safety of all staff and assets in the area.
• Support needs assessments, guarantee that projects meet donor requirements and NRC standards, and maintain robust data collection and analysis systems.
• Identify programming gaps, contribute to the design of new interventions and develop access strategies for hard‑to‑reach communities.
• Adapt and apply standard operating procedures, coordinate with country‑level colleagues and represent the area in the Multi‑Country Management Group.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing humanitarian programmes in complex, insecure environments.
• Strong understanding of shelter, site management, education, WASH, protection and legal assistance sectors.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, ensure staff security and foster partnerships with local authorities and donors.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills, with experience in monitoring and evaluation.
