Senior System Engineer (Virtualization)

About the role

Social Discovery Group (SDG) is a group of social discovery companies whose products help people connect online across cultures and regions. It is looking for a Senior System Engineer focused on virtualization, working remotely on a full-time basis.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, administer and continuously improve enterprise virtualization platforms based on VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V, across Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) and traditional SAN-based architectures.
• Ensure availability, performance, scalability, security and reliability of virtualized environments through monitoring, troubleshooting, capacity planning and operational excellence.
• Plan and execute infrastructure upgrades, migrations, patching, lifecycle management and integration with cloud and hybrid infrastructure services.
• Collaborate with SRE, DevOps, Network, L2 Support and Remote Hands teams, resolving complex production issues and performing root cause analysis.
• Manage and optimize storage, SAN, backup and disaster recovery solutions in VMware vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, Hyper-V and SCVMM environments.
• Drive automation and continuous improvement, develop automation scripts and maintain technical documentation and procedures.

Required profile

• Strong expertise in VMware virtualization (ESXi, vCenter) and hands-on experience with vSAN, including SPBM, lifecycle management and HCI operations.
• Extensive experience with Hyper-V and System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM).
• Knowledge of virtual networking (vSwitches, Distributed Switches, VLANs, NIC teaming) and SAN protocols (iSCSI, Fibre Channel, FCoE).
• Proficiency in automation and scripting with PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python or Bash.
• Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy.
• Strong troubleshooting and performance optimization skills; English level B1+.
