Underground Manager

About the role

The Underground Manager provides leadership and direction to underground mining operations and contractors, ensuring that approved mining plans are delivered safely, efficiently and beyond expectations. The role emphasizes innovation, continuous improvement and collaboration with supporting departments to meet safety, productivity and cost targets.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all underground activities to achieve budget forecasts safely.
• Oversee contractor relationships, including new and existing contracts, to run underground operations efficiently.
• Prepare operation and project cost estimates and report progress against budget.
• Identify and implement business improvement opportunities and future operational processes.
• Mentor, coach and train the national workforce.
• Review and approve production schedules and medium‑term mine planning.
• Lead improvement projects in partnership with other underground disciplines.
• Drive a positive safety culture through visible leadership, safety inspections and initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years of underground mining experience, with at least 5 years in mechanised hard‑rock mines.
• Experience with high‑speed mine development, various stoping methods and different scales of operation.
• Proven ability to manage underground mining contracts and resolve disputes.
• At least 5 years of managerial or project‑lead experience in mining.
• Strong leadership and mentoring capability in remote or developing‑country settings.
• Fluent English with excellent report writing and presentation skills.
