Senior Software Engineer - PHP

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer specialized in PHP to lead the design, development, and maintenance of high‑performance web applications. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to architect robust backend systems and mentor junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable PHP‑based applications using modern frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony or Zend.
• Build and document RESTful APIs, integrate third‑party services, and ensure smooth communication between front‑end and back‑end.
• Oversee application deployments, manage production environments, and troubleshoot live systems.
• Enhance existing platforms by analysing business objectives and implementing performance optimisations.
• Stay current with PHP advancements, industry trends, and best practices, advocating new technologies where appropriate.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, providing guidance on software design and implementation.

Required profile

• 5‑8 years of professional experience in PHP development.
• Strong expertise with PHP frameworks (Laravel, Symfony, Zend, CodeIgniter).
• Proficiency with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and familiarity with NoSQL (MongoDB) is a plus.
• Extensive experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs.
• Solid understanding of OOP, design patterns, software architecture, and version control (Git).
• Experience with unit and integration testing, web security practices, and performance optimisation.
• Comfort working in Linux environments and using containerisation tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and front‑end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React/Vue/Angular).
