Junior Software Engineer – PHP

About the role

We are seeking a Junior Software Engineer with a passion for coding and problem‑solving to join our development team. You will work on designing, building and maintaining PHP‑based web applications while learning from senior engineers in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain web applications using PHP and related technologies.
• Write clean, efficient, reusable code following best practices.
• Collaborate with senior developers and cross‑functional teams to design and implement new features.
• Perform unit and integration testing to ensure software quality.
• Troubleshoot, debug and optimise existing code for performance.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes.
• Assist in database design and optimisation, primarily with MySQL or PostgreSQL.

Required profile

• 0‑1 year of experience in PHP development (internships and training considered).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and willingness to learn.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high‑quality code.

Required skills

• PHP (7.x or 8.x)
• MySQL or PostgreSQL
• HTML, CSS, JavaScript
• Version control with Git
• RESTful API development
• Laravel, Symfony or CodeIgniter frameworks
• Basic knowledge of React, Vue.js or Angular
• Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS or Azure
• Understanding of containerisation tools like Docker
